A bit beyond the horizon ....

Now I know myself better in Khayelitsha in Cape Town and its surroundings as well as makers of township residents here. We have to travel a lot and learn as the Greater Cape Town always better. The "Cape Flats", which run like a flat plane from Cape Town and Table Mountain to Somerset West, are home to many millions of people. The smog and noise is a day for the cauldron, and differs only to the clear sea air, when the south wind moves come across False Bay and around 2km from the sandy beach in the township and blows the dirt further into the interior drives.

have just over two weeks ago we all gathered up and climbed the landmark of the city, the 1087 meters high Table Mountain.
The climb was very strenuous and arduous task. And although it is in about 2 hours on the high plateau, then you realize how tired you are - but some do it well in an hour! On top, you will be rewarded with spectacular views both on the Cape Flats Cape Town and on their own with the bay and Robben Iceland.
"On the Table Mountain has a unique diversity of plants. Some 1,400 plant species have been identified, which is more than in Great Britain found are. Many of them are endemic, ie found nowhere else in the world " ... [Source: Wikipedia ]

Then came so with the most beautiful weekend here in South Africa: On the birthday of my friend Johanna, we have both made a brief tour of the Western Cape.
We rented from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, a car and first drove to Hermanus to acquaintances.

is right here In the meantime it has become spring. The days are getting hotter, everything blooms and slowly dry the already silted grass surfaces.

Hermanus is the town's most famous whale in the whole of Africa. UNESCO has declared Hermanus as the best point for whales from the mainland to observe from. There we have with our friends in a bar directly into celebrated on the rocky cliffs of the sea in Johanna's birthday.
are the next morning we left towards Cape Agulhas, the southernmost point of the African continent.
The ride went on forever long and straight sand and dirt road, where you can even up to 90km / h faster. It was not easy - watch out for in curves and bumps have to be very and go slow - but doable.

were on the way we pass the last car ferry handberiebenen South Africa. Over the medium-sized, slow-flowing river is a wire rope is stretched. It runs along the ferry. Two men hang from day to day with shoulder straps to the ropes and pull the ship from one bank to another. It was exciting but also humbling to see the men work so hard for one.

was beautiful and the solitude Wide out here. Finally switch off and come to her.
The allersüdlichste point of Africa is unspectacular and less poignant, but we have but on our way from Cape Agulhas to Swellendam seen quite a macabre scene at the runway edge:

went to an ostrich flock there then on to our backpackers in Swellendam:

The next day (Sunday) we went back to Khayelitsha.

It was a really beautiful short trip and she has a taste for more. Now I plan to eagerly
our great 40-day tour at the end of the volunteer year (August 2009)!

Bye .... your Freddie!
