2:30 am Since Monday I clock after a 10-hour bus ride (of which I have slept at least 8) Tuxlta Gutierrez in the first two nights we were tentative at Rafa -. our nice Coordinator housed
are with me in Chiapas from left to right.
Felix from Minden (19), Elias from running (at Nuremberg, 20), Robin of Hamburg (18), Lisa from Finland (21) and Jessica after England (25)
the Arrival in Rafa's home, we still - looked despite kleffendem, vereinsamtem dog on the roof (which is to come really down NEVER!) Tuxtla at night :
the Monday have we spent in the National Park of Canyon del Sumidero - very impressive! We got there (with 8 people) in Pablo's old VW Pointer. Typical Mexican: At least four police officers have just ignored us, although we had five people squeezed into the backseat and my head clear hung out the window ... In contrast to Germany (all lose their license), it would have here but only a penalty of estimated given 200 pesos (about 10 €). Buckle up is not widespread in Mexico way. Driver's licenses but not (maybe about the Häflte one).
We have picked out the canyon from the mountains, the boat ride through the river yet. There were several viewing platforms where we stopped. At the top there was a kind of souvenir shop, where we also 'what to were able to buy drink. With fact we had nothing. Planning is here in Mexico - as far as my experience - generally a bit weak. We really wanted in the zoo. although it is in every small Guides - - that Monday had closed but we are only on site noticed.
evening we met our contact person in a bar at the park. Each volunteer is assigned one of Tuxtla, in order to settle better. My contact person is Leti, the last year has lived in England and was not the only present ... Jessica and Lisa are already gone quite early, as they were picked up by their host families. The contact persons can all have a super nice impression and can also speak English reasonably well, due at least in the beginning a clear advantage.
Tuesday evening are Elias and I finally came to our project. Since it was late, we were shown our room only. Finally unpacking stuff! After almost 2 weeks of life out of a suitcase that was really great:)
about my project, I will report after the weekend. This evening we meet at 8 clock at Rafa for clubbing. I'm curious & am looking forward to my first beer. Alcohol is in the project that is prohibited! And may the week in the evening Elias and I can not get out. cut
does well
Ben
PS trees on Mexican:
Stiehl is apparently still not arrived. As the husband is the estimated two hours at 35 ° C and 99% humidity has kept without falling off the tree me is really a mystery!
Slowly I got myself settled in and find time to blog. We have also since today Internet at home, which makes things much easier.
is my new "home" here in Puebla, WG Lucy (23, studied here Advertisement), in the still Pepe - live and two friends - Lucy's brother. Lucy and Pepe speak (thankfully!) English very well so I can do everything that I can not say in English (and this is sorry he damn much) on English expression. But let's start from scratch:
The flight was - in a planned sleepless night - extremely comfortable, because I only just under half the time awake . I was bored, thanks to friendly neighbors, films, and Ipod and not like 11 hours later I also not before the flight from London.
arrived in Mexico City - after 40 hours without proper sleep
You must press a red button by the way in customs. If the red light (and for me it was red) have to hand it to open durchsuchhen all his baggage. Ridiculous method ...
From Mexico City we took a well-equipped, comfortable coach next to Puebla, where our organization ( Siijuve ) has an office, because our course is taking place. From Capu (Central de Autobuses del Puebla -> bus station) me Lucy has picked up: For a first Impression I was too tired, but it was already 1 clock at night and I could not see much anyway. Once, I fell into bed dead tired.
Next day: 9:00 - The English course in office begins Siijuve. I got there by bus. Pepes without accompaniment I'd never arrived. I would honestly have not even got on the bus ...
"Where is the bus station? And Pepe, why are we waiting here are on the road ?!?!"
's stops here at any rate. It just sticks his arm out at any street corner and the bus stops. Well, he does not last forever, sometimes you have to in roles and alighting. Also keep the doors of the journey opened and the drivers know just flat, which makes the whole thing really interesting.
The clamping severally rate goes way until 27.8. Then it's Introduction on to camp with all the other volunteers who spend their year in Mexico. Most are German way.
Back to the text: After the English on the first day we (Jacob, Roman, Robin, Elias, & I Tuamos - A volunteer, of his year has already passed and now again in Finland) is the center of Puebla run:
tastes After 2 cerverzas (Indio my personal best) in a very relaxed bar with jazz music, while Tuomas tips which we have been for years, we have continued and have looked at the city core.
Before we went back, we still have a very simple style Mexican "Restaurant" - tacos al pastor con Quesa eaten was (very tasty - even though it surprised me that the cook was estimated at 12 years old ).
The center looks very nice - especially the place of the cathedral with palm trees and a large fountain (before we sit here now)
From left: Roman, I, Elias, Robin, are Jacob
The really nice but the F a r b e n the facades in a city center (you have to but see proof):
I am then go home and dinner with friends of Lucy in a disco in Cholula. The next day I was kinda broken and I am following the English directly home. Friday nights are Lucy and Pepe took me to Tlaxcala. They come from there and moved to study in Puebla. In Tlaxcala, we are in a good (which can be recognized, obs full or empty) and have gone Taaquerilla tacos eaten. For all those who are not familiar with Mexican tacos here's a picture:
are always served with the meal ALWAYS lime (Limon) and salsa (usually extremely hot). The tacos you have to, not as in the U.S. to roll itself.
Mexican food Unfortunately total fatty, what has my stomach in the beginning a little added! In the meantime, but again everything in balance, from tacos but I've kept the last 3 days away, which is not easy, because it is the No.1 Mexican court.
The next morning, there were prepared by Lucy's mother, of Mexican breakfast, consisting lubricating cheese, huevos fritos, tortillas and mole. Mole is prepared for each region. Dise here (the black on my plate) with chocolate, chili and many other spices. I added it is not entirely tasted! Tortillas for breakfast, I found Incidentally, also very used to ...
With the bus I am then back to Puebla to learn English.
The baby house Baphumelele Children's Home in Khayelitsha currently houses about 50 young children aged 5 weeks to 3 years. The House has 4 bedrooms, depending on age, divided, has a large living room adjoins the kitchen and a bathroom. The 10-square-foot bathroom has a shower, a bathtub, a toilet, two sinks and closets for clothes the baby. The entire device is in normal adult size, which is very inconvenient for the little babies, because it makes the washing of so many children every day. The moldy ceiling already, since there is no deduction and only one window and the smell of the diaper change remains of 30 children in the room. The so-called "Washing Time" at least 20 children are in a bathtub and shower 10 in the back and forth in an absolute mess in which the caregivers try to create order in a loud voice. The diapers of the Children will be changed on the bathroom floor and the general hygienic condition leads to recurrent illnesses such as diarrhea, because it is so impossible to wash each child with a new clean water!
A complete renovation is now the bathroom with 4 children showers, 3 toilets for children, an extra large changing table with sink, a fume hood, and a narrow row of windows provide the showers to a consequence, the hygienic requirements of a bathroom for so many children are just, but also to facilitate the work of the supervisors. Since we want to make the renovation as thoroughly as possible and want to create a bathroom that is not in a hurry be replaced, we need the help of professional pipes and tile. Preparations have already been made, a preliminary cost estimate is available. All in all, the project will cost € 3000, € 800 of which already are met by the fundraising campaign [by Anil Shah] be the change that you want to see in the world .
We know that sounds an awful lot to the sum of money, but we are convinced that with this renewal of Baby-bathroom house is an important and lasting improvement to be bringing the hygienic conditions of our young children. We do not expect miracles or high donations, but we ask for a little support, if you can understand what we want to achieve with this project.
hear how often you find that you alone can not change the world, but only if everyone who feels attracted by this action could contribute a small amount, the world changes for our babies ...
